Ramblers in the Inverness Firth

Terms and Conditions

Why We Wrote This (And Why You Should Care)

This page exists so everyone’s on the same page - metaphorically, not legally binding yet. The website merkinchlnr.org.uk is run to share information, stories, and updates about the Merkinch Local Nature Reserve in Inverness. We’re not lawyers, but we believe in clarity, fairness, and the occasional cup of tea whilst reading policies.

Think of this less as a wall of text and more as a handshake, polite, firm, and without hidden clauses.

Using This Website (The Friendly Version)

By browsing, scrolling, or even getting lost down a rabbit hole of bird photos, you agree to use this website responsibly. That means no hacking, spamming, or pretending to be us, we’re flattered, but please don’t. All content is for general information and a bit of inspiration. Don’t rely on it for professional advice (unless your profession involves spotting otters).

If you spot an error, we’d rather you drop us an email than post a 3,000-word rant on social media. We fix things faster than the tide turns: and with less drama.

Our Content, What’s Ours and What's The Essence Ofn’t

All text, photos, and illustrations on merkinchlnr.org.uk are either created by us, credited to their rightful owners, or used under proper permissions. Please don’t copy, download, or republish our content without asking first; even the muddy-boot photos. If you want to quote or share something, we’ll usually say yes, provided you include a link back. It’s just good manners, really.

We’re all for spreading the word about Merkinch, but not for lifting our words without context. Respect creative effort; it keeps the internet civilised.

External Links, The Digital Detour

We occasionally link to other websites: local projects, conservation groups, even a few travel resources (and the odd practical thing, like short term car insurance for visitors touring the Highlands responsibly). We try to make sure these links are relevant and trustworthy, but we can’t vouch for every pixel on the internet.

Once you leave our site, their terms and policies apply. So if another site promises you a lifetime’s worth of otter sightings or a discount on solar-powered campervans: that’s between you and them.

Accuracy, Updates, and the Occasional Typo

We do our best to keep everything up to date, from walking paths to wildlife lists. But nature changes; and so do websites. Paths flood, birds migrate, and someone (usually us) will eventually spot a typo. We reserve the right to update, change, or fix anything on the site at any time, without sending a dramatic press release about it.

Basically: we aim for accuracy, but we’re human. Sometimes our commas wander off.

Disclaimer: The Serious Bit

We provide this website “as is”: not because we’re lazy, but because the outdoors can’t be guaranteed. Use any information here at your own discretion. If you trip over a tree root whilst following one of our suggested trails, we hope you’re okay, but we can’t be held responsible for scraped knees or overconfident footwear choices.

Likewise, if you click an external link and end up learning more about car insurance than conservation, that’s on you. Choose wisely, drive safely, and always read the fine print: yes, even this fine print.

Privacy, Cookies, and Calm Transparency

We take privacy seriously - without taking ourselves too seriously. See our Privacy Policy for full details. We promise we won’t sell your data, stalk your browsing habits, or use cookies for anything we wouldn’t eat ourselves.

In short: we collect minimal data, keep it safe, and move on with our day.

Governing Law (Because Lawyers Said So)

These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland and the wider United Kingdom. Any disputes will be handled by the Scottish courts: ideally with civility, and maybe a scone afterwards.

If something here ever seems unclear, assume good intent. We’re a nature project, not a conglomerate. Our aim is to inform and inspire, not to baffle you with legalese.

Updates and Revisions

We may revise these terms now and then - usually after tea and a stern talk with our web developer. The latest version will always live right here, on this page. Check back occasionally if you’re the diligent type.
